AI Leadership
Toward a Model of Shared Growth in Higher Education

Since its launch in 2023, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Forum of the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has explored how rapid AI development is reshaping higher education, evolving from basic tool adoption to deeper cross-disciplinary teaching and research. Building on previous discussions, NCKU held the “AI in Higher Education: Teaching Forum” on February 25, gathering faculty, students, and experts to discuss trends, applications, and potential risks.
From Tools to Co-Evolution
President Meng-Ru Shen opened with reflections on his own AI use, noting its growing impact on administration, research, and daily work. He emphasized the need to embrace innovation with caution: “We must not only use AI, but understand it, examine it, and grow with it.” AI education, he stressed, is not just about tools, but an ongoing, shared learning process.

Three Pillars of Progressive Teaching Vision
Under the vision of “AI Leadership, Shared Teaching Growth,” the forum outlined three pillars:
Learning about AI (Understanding & Ethics): Building foundational knowledge of AI principles and development, while addressing potential risks and ethical issues.
Using AI (Research & Application): Integrating AI tools into academic research to enhance efficiency while maintaining quality and rigor.
Learning with AI (Teaching & Collaboration): Exploring how AI can be embedded in teaching to foster students’ ability to collaborate with AI and develop responsible technology use.
Driving Transformation in Higher Education
This year’s forum builds on past achievements, expanding AI applications in teaching and research through cross-unit collaboration. In response to rapid AI development, NCKU adopts a balanced approach of critical reflection and open innovation, aiming to help faculty and students stay ahead of trends, strengthen professional foundations, and harness technology as a key driver of educational and societal progress.
