To strengthen the University’s governance framework for sustainable development, the former Office of Strategic Development and Integration was reorganized as the Office of Sustainable Strategic Development effective August 1, 2025 (ROC Year 114). As a first-tier administrative unit, the Office integrates and advances university-level sustainability strategies and coordinates internal and external resources to realize NCKU’s vision for sustainable development governance.

This organizational upgrade demonstrates National Cheng Kung University’s firm commitment to advancing a sustainable campus. President Meng-Ru Shen stated, “In response to global challenges such as energy transitions, environmental change, and demographic shifts, NCKU has incorporated the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its institutional blueprint. Focusing on humanistic values, health and well-being, net-zero emissions, innovative governance, and resilient disaster prevention, we integrate education, research, and social engagement to fulfill the University’s social responsibility through concrete action.”

Professor Rwei-Ling Yu, a distinguished expert in mental health, has been appointed as Chief Sustainability Officer. Drawing on her interdisciplinary expertise and practical experience, she will help shape a sustainability roadmap grounded in strategic vision and humanistic care, reflecting President Shen’s commitment to building a “Happy Campus.” Moving forward, the Office of Sustainable Strategic Development will actively connect campus units and resources, deepen sustainability education, strengthen cross-unit collaboration, and support the University’s progress toward a more resilient and globally influential future, fulfilling NCKU’s mission and commitments.
